Congratulations and thank you to all the students that participated in the Mayoral Awards last Thursday night. Certificate 3 Tourism and Hospitality Students completed various tasks including set up of the auditorium for the awards and escorting guests to their tables. Students also set up for the VIP function where they greeted guests and provided tray service of food and beverages. Food for the VIP function was prepared and cooked by Certificate 2 Cookery students.

There were several comments from prospective employers on the enthusiasm, professionalism and presentation of some of the students with one student being offered employment and others being encouraged to submit a copy of their resume.

Tourism and Hospitality Excursion 7th March

Thank you to all the students that attended the Tourism and Hospitality Excursion on Friday 7th March and an even bigger thank you to the businesses that we visited throughout the day, it was a great day.

Students should now know a little more about the local area (and the wines and beers) and be starting to appreciate the diversity of the industry and the opportunities that are available.

Students that are still unsure about what area they want to work in should read through the job descriptions that were included in the package from Cypress Lakes to give a little more insight into positions as Food & Beverage Attendants, Housekeeping Attendants, Kitchen Attendants and Reception – Guest Service Agents. There is also an application form included in the package too.

Special thanks to the staff at Hunter Valley Wine Country Visitor Information Centre, Potters Brewery, McWilliams Mt. Pleasant and Cypress Lakes for their hospitality.

Canteen hours

Night trading in the canteen ceased operation last year due to low number of customers and sales.

This year the canteen operator has agreed to give night trading another go for a trial period. The canteen re-commenced night trading during the first week of classes and is still trading.

The canteen operator has advised that sales are extremely low, with less that twenty customers per evening.

Unfortunately if sales and customer numbers do not increase the night service will cease to operate again the same as last year.

The canteen operator has given a further two weeks to try to increase sales and therefore maintain the service for students and staff.

Students attending in the evening are encouraged to use the canteen to maintain the service.
